Busy Bees

The Busy Bees Ministry was started in 1975 when Pastor Johnny Leonard asked Carol Henderson to start a friendship ministry for widows in the congregation.  They met once a week to visit and work on their craft projects.  The purpose for the group was to give companionship to lonely widows.  It has grown into a group of ladies dedicated to fulfilling various Outreach Projects to demonstrate our love for our Savior Jesus Christ.

We meet at 10:00 AM every Tuesday during the church calendar year.  We have a time for prayer requests and praise reports.  We pray for our pastor and his family and all church leadership and ministries of the church.  On the third Tuesday of each month we meet for breakfast at 9:30 AM at one of the area restaurants.

Over the years the group has worked on several service projects.  We made plain muslin dolls for Shriners Children Hospital, so doctors can easily explain surgeries to young patients.  We have packed gallon bags of “goodies” donated by the community for military personnel in Iraq and Afghanistan.  We have also donated money for postage to mail these supplies.

One of our  annual traditions is to pack book bags for the schools in our area.  During the summer months, we collect items for the Back-to-School Book Bag Ministry.  These fully packed book bags provide the essentials needed by local children to start a new school year.  At Christmastime, we help pack the Samaritan’s Purse shoe boxes and decorate the Christmas Tree in the Fellowship Center.  For the yearly Easter Egg Hunt, we fill Easter eggs for the children to gather to fill their baskets.  Individual  members have also made quilts and crocheted items for several charities.

We welcome new members, not just widows, and are always looking for opportunities to help our church serve others.  Please join us Tuesday mornings at 10:00 AM in the YAMS building.
